What’s the difference between a hot water cylinder and an unvented pressurised cylinder?
We get asked this a lot, so here it is! The main difference is that an unvented hot water cylinder takes its water supply directly from the mains, whilst a vented system takes its water from a tank. There are advantages of using either and we will advise you on what we think is right for you.
The basic advantages are:
Unvented pressurised cylinder:
Water is taken directly from the mains and heated when needed, so hot water is always available. Less space is required in your house for this system (no tank in the loft) No reliance on gravity to work, so can be placed anywhere in your home Water pressure is often higher with an unvented system so your shower will have more power! Less noise -because the water tank won’t need to fill up
Vented hot water cylinders
A cheaper system to install Less maintenance because it’s a more basic system If the water supply is cut off, you still have what’s in the water tank in the loft
